What causes check engine light to come on?
One of the dashboard indicators, the check engine, can light up when it is ignited in quite a few circumstances. Some are benign, some are serious. So, what causes check engine light to come on?
- Gas cap: If the gas tank cover is not properly fixed, it can generate gas emissions that were not intended.
- Oxygen sensor: In some cases, this sensor may fail, or the car’s engine light will come on if the oxygen sensor overheats during its operation. If the engine sensor is damaged, kindly call a professional for an engine repair.
- Spark plugs: Check the engine light on faulty or burnt spark plugs, wires, and ignition coils associated with the high voltage ignition system's progress.
- Catalytic converter: It is obvious that if the MAF (mass air flow) sensor is not functioning properly, the check engine light will likely be activated.
- Mass airflow sensor: When an easily repaired mass airflow sensor becomes excessively dirty or broken, it will heat up, causing the check engine light to come on.
- Fuel injection system: Failing to replace this idling brake may cause the check engine light up to appear because MATS is injected for fuel supply system breakdown.
- Exhaust pipe: In general, a damaged exhaust ray, i.e., an exhaust pipe, should be repaired. If it is ignited, the check engine light may come on.
- Battery: There are conditions in which the car battery is not capable of delivering proper energy to the car's electrical circuitry, causing electrical abnormalities.
- The aftermarket alarm and its bad installation: This is one more type of alarm that may be accompanied by this light turning on.
- Thermostat: Overheating the radiator can also be the reason for the check engine light being lit.
When the check engine light constantly runs red rather than yellow, blinks on, and flashes an oval, it means that a problem is critical and you need engine repair.
