Cannon auto repair

With summer about over and fall around the corner, give your vehicle a little extra attention before the cold days of winter arrive! Take time to schedule an appointment at your auto shop so that your vehicle is as safe as possible to drive in the cooler days on the way.

The key to having a worry-free vehicle is to make sure that all the recommended maintenance items have been taken care of at the appropriate intervals. Any necessary repairs should be taken care of as well. You may think everything is fine because you are still able to drive your car, but there may be hidden problems under the hood.

Although you want an auto shop to perform a thorough inspection of your vehicle, there are some issues that you could start to observe yourself. Be sure to get your vehicle into your auto service center if you notice any of the following problems:

  • Leaking Fluids. Leaking motor oil will leave dark brown spots under the car, possibly from the filter or drain plug not tightened securely, or a gasket that is going bad. Greenish fluid under the car (coolant/antifreeze) means that either a hose is leaking, or the radiator unit itself could be leaking. If leaks are neglected, you could end up an overheating engine and engine damage.
  • Noisy Brakes. Squealing, squeaking, or metal-on-metal grinding sounds can indicate that your brake pads, rotors, or calipers and discs have become worn out and need to be replaced.
  • Unusual Sounds. Rumbling or sputtering sounds usually indicate a problem in the exhaust system, possibly a hole in the muffler or a failing catalytic converter. Chirping or screeching sounds coming from under the hood may be the drive belt or serpentine belt (these belts direct engine power to the accessory systems). As these belts age, they can become brittle, frayed, and break while driving.
  • Tires that hum, growl or roar. The tread may be worn down too far, a wheel bearing could be bad, or the tires may be out-of-round.
  • Dashboard warning lights. If your dash warning lights come on, your car’s on-board diagnostic system is alerting you to problems it detects. Don’t delay in contacting your auto shop to schedule a diagnostic test.

Remember: Spend a little money now to save more money later! Schedule an inspection of your vehicle at your preferred auto shop so your vehicle is ready for the cooler days ahead!
