Cannon auto repair

The cold days of winter are just around the corner and you certainly want a reliable vehicle, whether it’s just for your short commute to work or school, or whether you are headed up the mountain for some fun in the snow! If you haven’t done so already, call your auto repair shop and ask for an inspection of the various systems of your vehicle to determine if there are any potential problems. Not only can this save you $$$ in repair expense, but it can also literally be a lifesaver in freezing conditions.

Here are five tips that will help you stay as safe as possible on winter roads:

  1. Regular maintenance services: Check all the fluids (oil, brake, transmission, etc.), and either change or top-off as necessary. Replace filters with high-quality filters for a smoother ride. Check the brakes, battery, and lights (both exterior and interior) to make sure all are working properly. Don’t forget to check your wiper blades to make sure they are streak-free. If they are getting brittle, it’s time to replace them.
  2. Tires: Check your tires to make sure they have the proper inflation pressure and inspect them for excessive or uneven tread wear. If necessary, have a tire rotation, or if the tread is too shallow, you may need to purchase new tires (either all-season or snow tires). The spare tire should also be in good condition for a road-side emergency.
  3. Clean your car: Clean out your car from summer’s clutter so that you are as comfortable as possible. Remove unnecessary items from the trunk to lighten your load which will help increase fuel efficiency. Purchase easy-to-clean all-weather floor mats to protect carpets from mud and water. Keep your windows clean so there is nothing obstructing your view.
  4. Check the Radiator: Inspect the radiator for cracks or bulges in the hoses. Check the ratio of anti-freeze mixture to make sure it is adequate for freezing temperatures.
  5. Emergency Kit: Carry a roadside emergency kit, including blankets, snacks, water, jumper cables, and flares.

Of course, this isn’t a guarantee that an unexpected event won’t happen. But, you can make your drive as stress-free as possible by making sure that all needed auto repair services are taken care of before you head down the road, as well as benefitting from improved gas mileage and driving performance!
